August can see right through Lily when she lies. Why do you think that August never confronts Lily and gives Lily time to go and confess to her the truth?
I think that August since the beginning knows everything about Lily and therefore she understands her need to keep things a secret. She wants Lily to go on her own and tell had about what has been going on in her life. I believe she is basically waiting for her to confess by her own will.
When Lily came to bees' farm with a jar, everyone knows she need some help. Maybe it is the reason that August gave Lily enough time to tell her the truth. But after staying in bees' farm, Lily grown up, she is different from before.
I think August knows the reason why Lily comes to her, since she find out the girl who has a jar is named Lily. However, she pretend that she knows nothing, because she knows Lily comes for a reason. She was kind of waiting in order to see what happened to Lily and the reason she comes here. In the later of the story, she told Lily that Deborah is Lily's mother, and tried to give some help with the situation that Lily is in.
