The Secret Life of Bees : Lily's signs
"Lily Melissa Owens, your jar is open" gave Lily the sign that she was going to leave. I think that it actually was a sign for her and that it was her faith. It gave her the will to fly away and leave. She didn't have that courage to leave before but I think the voice saying that is what gave her the strength to go.
There were many events that I think lead her to leaving but I think what made her leave was Rosaleen being left in jail and beaten and knowing that she loves her and wanting to be with her. Also, Lily realized what her relationship with her father was after he told her she was lucky he even came back for her.
Lily's tin box with her mother's things had given her hope all those years. It was apart of her life and she was going to follow the picture that was her mothers. I think Lily finding the jars of Black Madonna Honey was a sign for her. I think it showed her that she was heading in the right direction, because she really wasn't sure where she was going.
I agree with this! I'm not joking I thought the same thing. I also thought like maybe the "Your jar is open" is like she had captured the bees in the jar and then she decided to let them go. They didn't leave at first but then they realized that their "jar was open" to say the least.
ReplyDeleteWhen she heard that her "jar is open" she realized that it has been open and she could have left earlier but she just hadn't completely realized that it was open and she could leave.
I also think that the jars of Black Madonna Honey were a sign, but could it necessarily be a good one? I feel like this book, for now at least, is very unpredictable and you never know what's coming next. This sign could be good or bad, we really don't know yet.
ReplyDeleteThis same sort of situation occurs in a lot of events in the book. For example, do we really know who killed Lily's mother? Because I don't and I am itching to find out! I am waiting for some sort of hints or clues that will give us an idea of what might happen next...
I think that the bees that were kept inside of Lily's jar were a symbol of Lily. In the beginning of the novel, Lily describes the bees swarming in her room, but she says she thinks the sound is peaceful. I think that this represents everything that T Ray has done to Lily to abuse her mentally is swarming inside of her, waiting to burst. However, she is still oblivious to the fact that the way her father treats her is not normal because she describes the swarm as being "peaceful".
ReplyDeleteWhen Lily first opens the jar, she tells us how the bees stay inside the jar for a while, unsure if it is safe to leave. This represents Lily. She is given the opportunity to leave, but is unsure of the decision at first. She finally realizes that her "jar is open", meaning it's time to leave.
I think the bee left the jar encourage Lily to leave her home. She wanna be free as a bee, she wanna leave home to find something about her mother. Though T Ray told her that before her mom dead, she wanted to leave Lily, and Lily doesn't trust him. She think he must be lie.
ReplyDeleteNot only bee's leaving encourage Lily to leave, but also Rosaleen being in jail. Lily lost her mother when she was only 4. Sometime Rosaleen can do something for her like only mother will do for child. Lily wanna save Rosaleen, and have a peaceful life with her.
Lily loves Rosaleen. She thinks Rosaleen is her mother after her mother was gone. When the Rosaleen jail, she noticed there have no family in the house. "Your jar is open" also means the door of freedom is open. Lily can leave whenever.
