Lily has always needed a sign in everything throughout the novel. From the beginning with the bees in her room she thought this was a sign to escape to when her and Rosaleen were walking and she looked for signs to guarantee they would make it somewhere. When Lily said to good-bye to May in the coffin she asked her to tell her mother to send a sign of her love. In what ways has Lily found her mother sending her love?

I think she showed it in giving Lily the courage to talk to August and having August have known it all along. Lily has nothing to be afraid of. Also, when August brought down the box of her mothers things with the picture of Lily and her mother.
