In the last chapter, T. Ray finds Lily because of the collect call she made to him. So she didn't realize, but it was because of her, that he found her exact location. At first he was crazy mad when he saw her, which is what we all could've suspected, but then he starts saying "Deborah." Which is Lily's mom's name. He sees Lily's mom in Lily.
Lily finds out a way to calm him down by convincing him that she was Lily, not Deborah. Do you think that the only reason why he was crazy and mad all those years, was because of her mother? And do you think that's the only reason why he flipped out on her when he saw her at the Boatwright sisters house?
Because it was the same house that her mother ran away to.
There was a reason that Deborah left T.Ray, she left him because he turned sour. The anger was built in T.Ray so he takes it out on Lily by abusing her. T.Ray must have been curious where Deborah was when she left, and when he found that she was in the Boatwright sisters house, he must have been furious.
