In Chapter 9 Lily gets stung for the first time by a bee on an extremely hot day. August says that this shows that she is an official bee keeper, and this really satisfied Lily. I think in a way August filled an empty space in Lily that Lily really never knew was missing... confidence.
August saying this to her made her more determined to work hard and become the best bee keeper she could be. Do you think that Lily being an "official bee keeper" added more to the growth of her character than just a sense of pride in herself? Do you think that it matured her?
