Zach's impact on Lily

Ever since Lily came to Boatwright sisters' house, she met August, May, June, and Zach. Lily is fascinated by the thought that she is capable of becoming so attracted by a black boy, a situation she had never thought possible. She also more clearly understands her feelings. Zach provides her with a sense of self, of confidence, and of hope for her future. Lily also learns that society will not always make room for love, because White people could not be attracted to black people.  How else does Lily's relationship with Zach expand her understanding of herself and of society?

  1. I think Lily now thinks more like Zach in the way that the society in America needs to be changed. She is also understanding herself more by realizing she isn't a racist because she likes Zach so much. She understands society because she finally realizes how unfair it really is.
