I think Lily's father beating her every time she stood up for herself has stacked up. I think it finally registered that it was wrong and she couldn't stand it anymore. I think she left partly because of that and partly because of other things.
I think she has hope and that her looking for signs is just her not knowing where to go or what to do. I think she thinks that her mom is watching over her and that her mom wont let something bad happen to her. But other times, like when she said "I'll take nine steps then look up. Whatever my eyes light on is my sign" on pg. 60, she is hoping that her mom is sending her something and that her mom listened to her and would send her a sign after those nine steps.
Also do you think that if she tells August the real reason she is there, that she will get the answers she's looking for? If so, what are some of the answers she's looking for. Why do you think she is looking for answers?
