I was shocked when Lily fell in front of the statue. prior to the fall we read that she is light headed so i understand why she fell, but i want to know why did she do so at that exact time and place? Was it foreshadow the author wants us to figure out down the road or an action taken to show symbolism of Lily as an individual or even the whole family (in the house) as a whole?
It may seem that Lily's actions are showing us that she isn't ready and doesn't believe in what the calendar sisters believe in.
ReplyDeleteAfter it happened, one of the sisters did say that it was very hot out, but I also think that everything has been overwhelming Lily, from leaving to seeing a whole new culture.
ReplyDeleteI think that at that moment, it all hit Lily. Her new life, being a fugitive, breaking Rosaleen out of jail and ending up in Tiburon worshipping The Black Madonna. She never pictured this kind of life for herself and she was just overwhelmed.
ReplyDeleteI think that this shows that The Black Mary is a key component to these women's lives. It always seems to pop up in the story during the craziest events that impact all of them. The Black Mary definitely stands for something important in the story.
ReplyDeleteI haven't quite figured out what The Black Mary symbolizes, but I think that The Black Mary stands for a beacon of hope.
I think this is meaning that Lily is not ready to stay in Blacks' culture, she still stay in her own belifs and cultures. This also shows the conflict between blacks and whites.
ReplyDeleteShe might not have had much to eat on this day. Also when the music stops and she doesnt get to touch Black Mary, she might have been so shocked that she just shut down.
