So much change has occurred in Lily's and Rosaleen's lives. They now live on a bee farm with August, June, and May; three black sisters who run the place.
Chapter 5: I noticed that Lily and August; the oldest one of the three sisters, have gotten so close because Lily has been assigned to help her with bee keeping every single day. I also realized that Rosaleen does not like the fact that they have become so close and not only is Lily doing her chores with August, but she is also spending a lot of her free time with her. Free time that could be spent with Rosaleen instead.
There could be many reasons why Rosaleen dislikes this:
- She may feel like she is slowly losing Lily
- She could be mad that Lily made her tag along in this little runaway adventure and is not even paying any attention to her anymore
- She may be jealous and worried that she will not be Lily's only mother figure, that Lily loved dearly.
Lily needs and wants someone in her life that is like a mother, but do you think this goes both ways in the sense that maybe Rosaleen wants someone to be able to take care of and look after like a daughter???
I think that Rosaleen does want someone as a daughter figure in her life. I think she's a little bit upset that she doesn't have a daughter of her own but she's been happy that she gets to have Lily. Now though, Lily is, in a sense, leaving Rosaleen to be with August and I think she is jealous of August. Maybe Rosaleen thinks that August has everything; a house of her own, a job of her own, and a family.
ReplyDeleteYes, I do think that Rosaleen enjoys having Lily as a daughter figure. I think that she enjoys it because she was never able to have her own, so having Lily is a privilege. I think Lily also gives Rosaleen hope, and a reason to stay strong.
ReplyDeleteI think Rosaleen doesn't have a daughter, as sometime Lily thinks Rosaleen is her mom, Rosaleen also treats Lily as her daughter. Maybe at the beginning of the life in the bee farm, Rosaleen will be upset. But i think Rosaleen is willing to see Lily's grow up.
